Moira Burmeister is a life coach/ well-being consultant offering an integrated and innovative approach to improving well-being.
My life’s journey has weaved a tapestry around two main threads, that of working as a healer and that of being closely connected to nature.
My career started in the nursing profession later specialising in occupational health. Setting up and managing clinics in various industries – food, clothing, textile and insurance; at the same time, completing a post graduate nursing degree (BA Cur) UNISA SA. It was during this period that I realized that working mainly on the physical well-being of individuals had its’ limitations. This started a quest to find a more holistic method of assisting individuals to optimise their well-being.
In 1997, while taking a break to nuture my two children, I launched a garden design and landscaping business. This business not only enhanced my love of nature, it opened doors to my creativity and the possibility to upskill unemployed individuals. Whilst this business was highly successful, the calling to be connected to the healing profession steered me in new directions.
The quest to find holistic ways to improve individuals’ well-being led to becoming a psychophonetics practitioner. This modality is a three year post graduate diploma which includes life coaching, counselling and leadership development whilst embodying the mind, body and spirit connection. This was followed by a BA Honours degree in Psychology – UNISA (SA).
I have extensive experience in counselling and coaching in numerous environments: youth 18 -25 in skills development programme / tertiary education students; caregivers in hospitals, NGOs, those serving HIV positive clients and AIDS orphans in NGOs, EAP government departments, dealing with conflict in the workplace in corporate environments and working in nature. In addition, I have worked with many individuals from all walks in life both in and out of nature.
Drawing from my experience in all these different areas, I now offer a holistic, integrated and innovative approach to Well-being.
I currently run a private practice and serve as volunteer counsellor at the trauma unit at Rondebosch Police Station and Chrysalis Academy. My passion is to work with individuals/ organisations to enhance wellbeing.
